What is Combination Skin?

Combination skin is probably the norm, in the sense that some areas of the skin produce more sebum than others. However the T-zone, which includes the forehead, nose, and chin, tends to be more oily than the rest of the face. As people age, sebum secretion decreases, even in the T-zone. This is the main reason why the incidence of acne also decreases as we age, as the sebum fatty acids is what keeps acne bacteria going.

So what should you do if you have combination skin? Just use the same products all over, and then apply some T-Zone Serum for the area of the forehead, nose and chin, as needed.

Keep in mind that oily skin is “bad” only in the sense that more sebum means more sustenance for the acne bacteria, but in the long run oily skin is likely to age more slowly.

If you are looking for detailed instructions on how to deal with combination skin, the idea is to be sensible, and look after your skin by not mistreating it. Don't over-exfoliate it, or expose it to the sun or heat for too long. Don’t use alcoholic toners. Use a non-greasy sunscreen but still limit exposure to the sun as much as you can, because sunscreen will not block all the effects of UV.

Our Collagen Serum will always help, and remember the benefits of retinoids especially against photoaging and loss of collagen. Vitamin A, in cream or serum, is too useful to forget. Remember creams are for drier skin and serums are for normal to oily skin.

Suggested Skin Care Routine for Your Combination Skin.

Step 1: Cleanse twice a day: use a mild, effective cleanser like Gentle Cream Cleanser or Daily Cleansing Gel.

Step 2: Exfoliate at night: Use a gentle exfoliator like our Vitamin A Serum or Cream.

Step 3: Apply treatment Serum: Apply T Zone Serum in the morning to control sebum oil production throughout the day. Collagen Serum will help balance skin and provide essential nutrients to the skin to help your skin be its healthiest.

Step 4: Lightly Moisturize your skin.

Step 5: Apply Sunscreen to protect your skin from UV Rays. It is always recommended if you use a Vitamin A (Rentinol) product for exfoliation. Look for the return of our Daily Defense with SPF coming in January.
